Introduction:
The Water Surface Profile (wsp) program is intended to be used to assist in the design of open drainage channels in predominantly flat areas where subcritical flows prevail. The program is based on the "step" method of design that is outlined in the "hydraulics" section of the NRCS Engineering Handbook series (sometimes referred to as the Kd method). The program contains features that will allow transition from one geometry to another and will evaluate culverts that might be placed within the channel.
It is recommended that in situations that merit a more complex hydraulic analysis, a program called "HEC-RAS" developed by the US Army Corp of Engineers be considered. Details on this program can be found on their WEB site.
